Scoring for Film and Games – MasterClass

Composing music for film, animation, and video games calls for a unique mix of art and science. This intensive workshop explores the creative principles and software techniques used to support a story with music.

Under the guidance of a veteran composer, you will compose an original score synchronized to picture, then participate in a live studio recording session with a chamber ensemble to produce the finished soundtrack.

You will learn:

How to use professional digital audio workstation software and hardware
Techniques for composing music synchronized to picture
How to prepare musical score and parts
Hands-on experience recording-to-picture with trained musicians

The Art and Science of the Modern DJ – MasterClass

Electronic musicians and DJ’s play a pivotal role in modern music, from soul to EDM.

This workshop will teach you the fundamental skills used in creating electronic music and professional DJ’ing.

You will learn music theory, sampling, synthesis, song structure, mixing, DJ history, and some of the science behind the equipment used to create electronic music. You will also learn to use DJ music industry tools to help you on your way to becoming a beat maker, electronic music producer, and DJ.

This workshop will enable you to make beats on an industry standard Digital Audio Workstation and equip you with the basic production techniques and DJ skills to scratch and mix the music you create. You will also learn basic scratch techniques and beat juggling on Digital DJ Controllers, using the industry standard Serato DJ software. The workshop will also include tips on the performance aspect of the art and on how to structure your song selection to suit your audience and or environment.

By the end of this workshop, you will have the ability to perform a mix incorporating beat mixing, scratching, and some beat juggling to provide the soundtrack to a DigiPen video game.

DJ history, music theory & problem solving
Beat mixing, basic scratching and beat juggling techniques
Performance, sampling and music curation
