Exploring Art and Animation Level 1

This workshop is perfect for anyone who’s ever paused an animation or video game just to admire the beautiful artwork. In Exploring Art and Animation, students will explore the fundamental skills used by all artists and animators. They will examine the skills, tools, and processes used to create art and animation for today’s video games and animations.

Exploring Art Fundamentals Level 2

Art is much more than creating a pretty picture and while this course continues to reinforce fundamental art concepts and skills for drawing, painting, and sculpting, the context of storytelling through art will be presented. Much like the Egyptians with their hieroglyphics, or the Greeks and their vases, students will be challenged to convey their stories through the art they create using different mediums.

Exploring Art: Creating Heroes and Villains

In this class we will be learning how the professionals tell a story just through the shapes of their characters. We will look at all the examples out there including 3D animation, Stop Motion, hand-drawn animation, and computer animation. We will evaluate the differences. We will learn about the hero’s journey and create fun stories with our characters. We will work individually and in teams coming up with a way all our characters can come together to form a grand story. We will find creative ways to tell different stories using what we learned.

Exploring Creature Design and Sculpting Level 2

This course continues with further development of knowledge and skills in foundational art techniques. Students will revisit human and animal anatomy concepts, particularly as it relates to structure and proportions. Application of theory is then combined with new sculpting techniques that students will apply towards the creation of themed characters.

Exploring Electronics

The field of electronics is ultimately all about how we can manipulate electrons to allow devices like our cell phones, microwave ovens, and even automated heart defibrillators to work. Starting with electricity, then progressing through other important topics such as electromagnets, motors, transistors and even integrated circuits, students will conduct experiments and build a variety of projects to demystify the exciting world of the electron!

Exploring Engineering Level 1

Being an engineer is about designing and creating devices, structures, and systems that can solve problems. By learning about engineering design and the various engineering disciplines, students will come to appreciate how engineers make things that have never existed before. The students will also explore the engineering feats created by many of Mother Nature’s creatures such as ants, spiders, and birds. Working individually and in teams, students will be tasked each week with designing and constructing a prototype to solve an engineering problem.

Exploring Fundamentals of Sound

Music and sound are essential elements of games, movies, and other interactive experiences. Students in this course will explore how sounds are made by constructing simple instruments. Rhythm and melody will be covered, and students will also learn the fundamentals of writing and performing their own music for a game and an animation.

You don’t need to be able to write code to understand how computers make decisions. In this workshop, your child will use fun activities and games to design and build their own decision engines. What happens when molecules meet? What is the difference between acids and bases? How does molecule size affect our sense of taste? Why don’t oil and water mix? Exploring Space: The Story of Flight & Space

Is your child in love with outer space, rockets, or science in general? We will discuss relationships to ecosystems, how energy transfers, force, how a rocket launches, and go through the process of scientific testing and taking notes. Students will study the great expanse known as outer space.
