About Masterclass Workshops
Taking a DigiPen Academy Masterclass provides students ages 13-18 with exciting learning opportunities! Each two-week Masterclass is offered in collaboration with an industry expert.
Program instructors are renowned experts in their field, with a gift for assessing and addressing individual strengths and needs.
Workshops are two weeks long, so the learning environment is quick enough to keep kids engaged and long enough to help them develop long-term skills and experiences.
Students will have structured class between 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pacific time.

Students must have access to a computer as well as additional hardware and software. Some programs or courses may indicate additional technology requirements, and not all programs are Mac compatible.
- Windows PC or Mac computer with web camera
- Display with minimum resolution of 1024 x 768. While it is not mandatory, it is recommended to have a second monitor connected to the computer to extend the desktop. This allows the student to more easily follow what the instructor is demonstrating while concurrently being able to see the software environment that the student is working within.

This masterclass is a unique opportunity for future animators to learn from a former Disney animator about the principles and processes used to create the amazing work seen in today’s video games and films. While at the Walt Disney Animation Studios, Jazno Francoeur worked on a number of films, including Lilo & Stitch, Tarzan, Mulan, Pocahontas, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Emperor’s New Groove, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Brother Bear, John Henry, and Roger Rabbit’s “Trail Mix-Up.” Jazno now works as DigiPen’s Program Director for our Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Art and Animation, so he will also be able to provide guidance about post-secondary education opportunities.

This masterclass will explore the mystery and beauty of the natural world through traditional drawing and painting. Working with fine artist Kristin Frost, students will have the opportunity to delve deep into many elements of nature, including plants, flowers, trees, animals, and landscapes. Kristin has taught with many college art programs in both Washington and California and has been working with DigiPen’s BFA program for the past two years. Having shown her landscape-inspired work professionally for most of the last decade, Kristin can offer knowledge of the art world and encouragement to students pursuing art in college or in life.

Composing music for film, animation, and video games calls for a unique mix of art and science. Come explore the creative principles and software techniques used to support a story with music in this masterclass taught by industry veteran and award-winning composer, James Borchers. James’ body of work spans a range of media including orchestral and chamber music, electroacoustic and computer music, sound installations, opera, film scores, and music for theater. With his guidance and mentorship, you will compose an original score synchronized to picture, then participate in a live studio recording session with a chamber ensemble to produce your finished soundtrack.

This Masterclass will teach you absolutely everything you need to know about the ever-growing industry of 3D Design and 3D Printing! Brian Jaffe is the owner of TheBrianJ3D, a Seattle-based small business focused on everything related to 3D design and 3D printing. He has worked for the University of Washington, Amazon, Puzzle Break, and numerous other businesses, not only designing products for them but running classes and workshops to teach employees how to design and 3D print for themselves. He will be here to guide you through how to use Fusion 360 (one of the best 3D design programs in the world), how to assemble and use your own 3D printer.
